As a senior associate in the Government Matters practice group at King & Spalding, Emily Apte focuses on government and internal investigations. Her practice includes advising and defending companies and individuals across multiple industries - technology, healthcare, energy, automotive, and financial services - in a variety of their most sensitive matters, including internal investigations as well as congressional and other federal and state government investigations.
Emily works with clients in the areas of white-collar criminal defense, government and corporate internal investigations. Her experience includes defending and counseling corporate clients and individuals in multiple industries facing government investigations conducted by various divisions of the Department of Justice, the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, the Federal Trade Commission, Treasury, and investigative committees of the U.S. Congress.
Emily has particular experience across multiple industries representing clients regarding internal and Congressional investigations. She works with individuals, companies, trade associations, and nonprofit entities on minimizing legal, public relations, and political risks, as well as responding to congressional and government inquiries. In addition, she prepares clients for witness interviews, committee briefings, and committee hearing testimony.
Emily also devotes a significant portion of her time to pro bono work and philanthropy, with a focus on representing children and victims of domestic violence.
Prior to joining King & Spalding, Emily worked at the White House as Associate Director in the Office of Presidential Speechwriting. She also worked at the U.S. Department of Education in Congressional and Legislative Affairs. In addition, Emily spent over three years in Uganda, where she worked with multiple international and local organizations on business development and worked with a local community to found a nonprofit organization focused on education and economic development.
