Professional Profile

Ms. Stockey concentrates her practice on commercial litigation, employment litigation and related matters, and investigations and compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”) and other anti-bribery and anti-corruption related laws.

Related to her employment litigation, Ms. Stockey has assisted clients with defending claims for gender, racial, age, and disability discrimination. She has also assisted in the defense of claims involving the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, and other contract and tort laws. She has represented clients before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”) and various state agencies and authorities. She successfully defended against and secured favorable resolutions related to EEOC Commissioner Charges. She has conducted internal investigations involving various employment issues, including sexual and racial harassment, as well as other employee misconduct.

Ms. Stockey has led and assisted with internal investigations of business activities, individuals associated with clients, and foreign business partners. These investigations have addressed anonymous and whistleblower threats, fraud, corruption, employee theft, conflicts of interest, international trade, and other alleged misconduct. Ms. Stockey has conducted internal investigations in the United States, North America, South America, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Ms. Stockey has represented clients in alleged corruption and related accounting matters before the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Specifically, Ms. Stockey has assisted clients in obtaining favorable outcomes before various enforcement authorities, including a declination by the DOJ and non-prosecution agreement with the SEC.

Ms. Stockey also conducts anti-corruption due diligence on prospective and current business partners and in the in the context of mergers & acquisitions. She counsels clients regarding anti-corruption and anti-bribery compliance. She assists clients in conducting risk assessments regarding their business operations and counsel clients on their anti-corruption and anti-bribery policies, procedures, and programs. She also assists clients with training their employees and business partners on compliance with the FCPA and other anti-corruption and related laws.

With respect to her commercial litigation practice, Ms. Stockey focuses on insurance coverage, securities law, and toxic tort matters.

Representative Matters

Conduct an internal investigation for and assist in the defense of an SE Asia-based, publicly-traded, global manufacturer of marine and offshore integrated solutions into allegations of corrupt payments to government officials and others in Brazil, in connection with the so-called “Operation Car Wash.” 

Assisted in conducting internal investigation into alleged Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) violations at a Chinese subsidiary a U.S. public company in the electronic and industrial manufacturing industries.

Assisted U.S. company with making self-report to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) and then represented the company in the ensuing resolution. Company ended up entering into a rare SEC Non-Prosecution Agreement (NPA) and the DOJ announced publicly its decision to decline to prosecute, the first settlement under the so-called DOJ “Pilot Program.”

Conducted various investigations in India, China, and other Asian countries regarding corruption, payment of kickbacks, vendor favoritism, conflicts of interest, and other potential misconduct and legal violations.

Conducted investigation regarding allegations of violations of False Claims Act and other U.S. laws for healthcare providers.

Conducted various multi-jurisdiction, cross-border internal investigations in South America, Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East regarding allegations of corruption, conflict of interest, fraud, sexual harassment and other misconduct for Fortune 500 companies.

Conducted internal investigations and defended companies against claims of sexual harassment, hostile work environment, discrimination, retaliation, and other employment- related issues.

Conducted a multi-jurisdiction, cross-border internal investigation for a Fortune 200 company operating in the upstream oil and gas sector into allegations of corrupt payments by third parties to various officials in various jurisdictions in violation of the FCPA and UK Bribery Act.
