Bio

Kirsten R. Nelson is a trial attorney at the Baez Law Firm with extensive experience in criminal defense and commercial litigation.

Before joining the Baez Law Firm, Kirsten spent five years as an Assistant Federal Public Defender and Training Attorney in the Southern District of Florida, where she represented more than 200 clients in matters ranging from pretrial detention through post-conviction relief. She served as trial counsel in numerous felony jury trials, securing acquittals on counts carrying mandatory minimum sentences. Kirsten also served as lead counsel in multiple white collar fraud cases involving losses exceeding $100 million and successfully briefed and argued matters of first impression before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Kirsten’s litigation experience spans some of the nation’s leading trial firms, including Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, Wilkinson Stekloff LLP, and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. In those roles, she was part of dozens of trial teams across federal and state courts, handled complex commercial and white-collar matters, and prepared dozens of witnesses — including CEOs and expert witnesses — for deposition and trial. She also serves as a guest lecturer at Georgetown University, teaching federal criminal law and procedure.

Kirsten clerked for the Honorable Thomas C. Wheeler of the United States Court of Federal Claims. She earned her J.D. with High Honors from The George Washington University School of Law. She is admitted to practice in Florida, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.
