Amy counsels and defends clients in complex, high-stakes business litigation and government investigations, with an emphasis on accounting and financial matters.
Amy is Deputy Practice Group Leader of Eversheds Sutherland’s US Litigation Group and co-leads the US and global Professional Liability practices. She has extensive state and federal trial and appellate experience, including jury trials, bench trials, and arbitrations - an increasing rarity in business litigation - and has particular experience leading matters involving multiple parallel lawsuits and regulatory investigations. She regularly represents accounting and financial services firms, corporations and their professionals in a wide range of high-stakes matters across the country, including accountant, auditor and actuarial liability cases; insurance litigation; securities fraud actions; business and shareholder disputes; tax litigation; actions under the False Claims Act; and state and federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act cases; and receiver, liquidator and bankruptcy trustee actions. Amy's cases have spanned a range of industries, including healthcare; pensions; insurance and financial services; energy; mortgages and structured finance; manufacturing, retail and distribution; technology, media and telecommunications; securities and brokerage firms; and construction.
Amy also has defended clients in investigations by federal agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Department of Justice, and the Environmental Protection Agency, as well as investigations and hearings by state prosecutors and licensing boards, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB).
Drawing from her insight and experience in the litigation and enforcement arenas, Amy regularly publishes and speaks at professional conferences on issues relating to complex business litigation and professional liability. She co-chaired the ABA Professional Liability Litigation Committee for 2017-2020 and has co-authored the Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina chapters of a forthcoming 50-state treatise on accountants’ liability law. Amy also is active in her community, serving as a member of the Tocqueville Society Cabinet of United Way of Greater Atlanta and as the President of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Appellate Practice & Educational Resource Center, a non-profit that provides pro bono capital habeas assistance of last resort to inmates on Georgia’s death row.
