Bio

Katie McDiarmid is an associate in Moore & Van Allen’s Litigation group. Katie focuses on white collar criminal defense, internal and government investigations, and complex civil litigation.

Katie regularly practices in state and federal court. Katie’s experience ranges from pre-litigation stages through trial. Katie’s skills have been leveraged in fact-discovery, forensic analysis, motions practice, and assistance with oral argument.

While attending law school, Katie enjoyed the advantage of summer clerkships with the Honorable Paul M. Newby, now Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina and the Honorable Richard L. Voorhees, U.S. Senior District Court Judge in the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina. These opportunities gave Katie invaluable insights into the importance of thorough preparation and ethical advocacy that is persuasive.

Prior to law school, Katie was a corps member with Teach for America in the Piedmont Triad Region. It is through teaching high school math that Katie refined her attention to detail and developed her skill at breaking down complex topics into simpler and relatable explanations.

Katie’s Teach for America experience let her see first-hand the value of giving back to the community. Katie is active and engaged in pro bono activities ranging from petitioning for conviction expunctions to give people a fresh start to representing domestic violence survivors.
