Bio

Kit Addleman is a partner at Haynes and Boone, where she leads the firm’s SEC and Financial Enforcement Defense Practice. Kit defends companies, executives, and directors against charges of civil and criminal misconduct, particularly investigations and litigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission and Department of Justice. Many of her experiences involve defending allegations of accounting and financial fraud, insider trading, hedge fund and advisor fraud, and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations. Kit has been successful in defeating the SEC’s enforcement staff including in an administrative proceeding before the SEC’s own law judge as well as in obtaining numerous “closing letters” advising that the investigations were being terminated without public enforcement proceedings against clients – the best resolution for anyone embroiled in a government investigation.

She also counsels investment advisors, hedge funds, broker-dealers, and public companies concerning compliance with the securities laws and SEC rules.

Prior to joining Haynes and Boone, Kit spent more than 20 years at the SEC in four of its regional offices.  In her last position as head of the Atlanta Regional Office, she led the enforcement, examination and bankruptcy programs for the SEC in five Southeastern states, which included directing the enforcement priorities and resolutions of investigations and litigation. Kit also served in the Atlanta, Fort Worth, Denver and Philadelphia offices including heading the enforcement program in the SEC's Fort Worth and Atlanta offices before being named the regional director in Atlanta.

Kit brings the same zeal with which she serves her clients to her firm colleagues and to her community. She founded and chaired the Women's Initiatives for the firm and is a founder and regional leader for the WWCDA. Kit also currently serves as chairwoman of the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas.
